During my recent travels in France, a highlight for me was visiting the Saint-Paul Asylum in Saint Remy. As I walked in the beautiful cloisters and gardens where Vincent Van Gogh walked, I felt the contrast of this beautiful, tranquil, setting to what I knew of his inner turmoil. This gave new insight to me on both his artistic merit and the dichotomy of his journey. During his stay of just over a year at Saint-Paul, Vincent painted nearly 150 canvases and while he created hundreds more in his life, he only ever sold one. Knowing that he had the perseverance to continue producing while he received little to no affirmation for his efforts, clearly speaks volumes to his artistic passion and need to express himself through the arts. Reflecting on his experience renewed and expanded my gratitude for the many people that have encouraged me and collected my work through the years. Thank you.
