Throughout the span of my career, inspiration has come in various forms and in many subjects. My current source is one that has been felt time and again yet is perennially fresh, this being the passage of winter into spring. Day by day and week by week new life unfolds from dormancy and beauty reveals itself in countless ways.
My desire as an artist is to capture and the fleeting nature of spring as the hard, frozen soil gives way to the first hint of green, as branch gives life to blossom. This inspiration draws me out to paint en plein air and has me cutting and carrying blooms inside to be a part of my studio works. As these heralds of spring become my subjects, I find myself moved by the inherent symbolism of rebirth which offers me hope, a hope I desire to share.
